John Couvillon

As a self-described "political nerd," John Couvillon has had a lifelong fascination with politics, particularly with analysis of voter/election data, redistricting, and polling.

His background/work experience has given him the analytical foundation necessary to excel at his endeavors. John is a Certified Public Accountant with a B.S. in Accounting from Louisiana State University who recognized in the mid 1990s that computers were gradually replacing accounting positions. Instead of being a casualty of technological progress, John proactively enrolled in the Information Systems graduate program at Louisiana State University. With his master’s degree in hand, he then worked for the next 14 years in a variety of programming, project management, and data analysis positions.

It was as a senior data analyst at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Louisiana that John realized that the skills gained as an analyst could fill a market niche in the political world, and John formally launched his political consulting business (JMC Enterprises of Louisiana, also known as JMC Analytics and Polling) in 2010. John’s business provides strategic consulting services to candidates, issue advocacy groups, and governmental entities, including both live and automated public opinion polling, voter targeting, jury profiling, redistricting, data analysis, and "what it takes to win" analyses. To date, John has worked with candidates and/or third-party groups in 38 states who have been elected to offices ranging from Congressional to local races. His political expertise and business insights has been sought from national publications like the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, National Journal, U.S. News and World Report, The Hill, POLITICO, Townhall, Roll Call, Business Insider, Sabato’s Crystal Ball, Inside Elections, Campaigns and Elections, Real Clear Politics, and Bloomberg. He also serves as an Election Night analyst for a local television station, and his efforts contributed towards that station’s receiving an award by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters for “Best Election Coverage – Large Market” for its election coverage for the 2019 Louisiana Governor’s race. His polling in the 2019 Louisiana Governor’s race (as well as a 2020 U.S. Senate primary in Massachusetts and the Virginia Governor’s race in 2021) also made him a finalist for the Reed Awards for polling by Campaigns and Elections for three years in a row.

John was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which is where he has lived most of his life and is where he currently resides with his wife of 20 years. In his spare time, he is an avid cyclist, and makes it a point to participate in as many bike tours/charity rides as he can in the area.
